Big Lab Family Days

Get the chance to explore a science concept as you participate in hands-on activities in the Big Lab! The Big Lab is one of our educational facilities located next to the Air and Space Gallery. Work with your family to complete challenges at the different science platforms.

January 16, 2010: Chemical Reactions
Chemistry takes center stage during our Big Lab Family Day! Explore the science behind a variety of chemical reactions with your family.

Morning Session - 10 AM to 12 PM
Afternoon Session - 1 PM to 3 PM

May 8 , 2010: Insects and More
What's the difference between an insect and a spider? Find out as you explore the world of bugs in our Exploration Grove. Other activities will include constructing insect gliders and viewing live insects.

Cost
$25 per adult/child pair for Non-Members
$20 per adult/child pair for Members*
$5 for additional adults

Additional children will be charged the full cost of the program

Registration

Registration form

Please fax or mail in the registration form. On the form, indicate the child and adult that will be attending. Each child will need a separate registration form. All participants must be pre-registered. No unaccompanied children will be admitted.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be issued. In the event that a class is cancelled by the California Science Center, we will make arrangements for your child to enroll in another class or refund your money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do adults have to pay?
The cost includes one parent/child pair. Additional adults or children will need to pay an additional registration fee.

Can I drop off my child?
No, Big Lab Family Days are designed for adults and children to work together. All children must have a chaperone with them while in the Big Lab.

What if I have more than one child?
The program fee includes one parent/child pair. Additional children will need to pay for a separate registration. At least one adult is required to be with each group.

Where is the Big Lab?
The Big Lab is located on the campus of the California Science Center, in the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation. It is about 1-2 minute walk from the main building of the Science Center, next to the Air and Space Gallery.

How do I know I'm registered?
A confirmation letter will be emailed to you within 2 weeks of receiving your registration. If you have not received a confirmation letter, or prefer it to be mailed, please call 213-744-7444.

Do we need to bring anything?
No, everything will be provided for the activities. Please enjoy all food and drink outside of the Big Lab.

Can I register the day of the program?
At this time, pre-registration is required. Registrations are due the Monday before the program.

Will we be able to take home what we make?
At least one take-home activity will be included in each Big Lab Family Day. Others, such as the model roller coasters and sailboats, are for exclusive use in the Big Lab.
