Big Lab Afternoons

Spend an afternoon exploring a science concept as you participate in hands-on activities in the Big Lab! The Big Lab is one of our educational facilities located next to the Air and Space Gallery. Work with your family or on your own to complete challenges at the different platforms.

Previous Big Lab Afternoon Activities included:

  • Testing sailboats in Water Works pool
  • Constructing model roller coasters on the Giant Wall
  • Protecting an object that is dropped from the Mega Tower

Cost:
$15 per person for members
$20 per person for non-members

Pre-registration is required. No unaccompanied children will be admitted.

Do adults have to pay?
Yes. Parents are also encouraged to participate in the activities.

Where is the Big Lab?
The Big Lab is located on the campus of the California Science Center, in the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation. It is about 1-2 minute walk from the main building of the Science Center, next to the Air and Space Gallery.

How do I know I'm registered?
A confirmation letter will be emailed to you within 2 weeks of receiving your registration. If you have not received a confirmation letter, or prefer it to be mailed, please call 213-744-7444.

Do we need to bring anything?
No, everything will be provided for the activities. Food will not be allowed in the building.

Can I register the day of the program?
No, pre-registration is required. All registrations are due the Monday before the program.

Will we be able to take home what we make?
Some activities will be take-home activities. Others, such as the model roller coasters and sailboats, are for exclusive use in the Big Lab.
