Desert Dome

Desert Dome combines the unique experience of a full-dome show with an innovative, multi-media program. Desert Dome immerses you into the sights, sounds, and smells of the Mojave Desert. Learn about California's desert ecosystem as you help Uuhuuly, our Kangaroo Rat friend, find her way home. Students will gain an understanding of what makes the desert ecosystem unique by using four of their senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, and touching). Each 45-minute program is facilitated by a California Science Center educator and includes a classroom activity followed by the interactive presentation in the Desert Dome! General Information These programs take place at your school. Please check our information sheet for specific technical requirements. Cost: $595 per day, includes 3 sessions $150 for each additional session. Each session can accommodate up to 40 students plus teachers. Sessions may consist of either one class or two classes combined. Up to 6 sessions may be presented per day. Programs more than 60 miles from the Science Center will be charged additional travel fees: 61-75 miles add $50, 76-90 miles add $100) Dates: Click here to find out when the dome is available Scheduling: Each session lasts 45 minutes. A 10 minute break is required between sessions to reset the dome. Each session can accommodate up to 40 students, or 1-2 classes. Each session will begin in the classrooms with a short pre-activity. Classes will be led to and enter the dome together. The earliest available start time is 9 a.m. Booking Your Program Call 213-744-7444 to book your program. You will need: Your requested date and session start times. Please have an alternate date available. Check our calendar to find out when the Desert Dome is available. The grades of participating classes and the number of students in each class. School contact information and a primary contact at the school. All programs must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. A non-refundable $150 deposit is due 2 weeks after making your reservation and is applicable to the total program fee. There may be additional fees for mileage (if more than 60 miles from the Science Center), breaks between performances (if more than 2 hours between sessions), and rescheduling. Cancellation and refunds: To cancel a program you must call 213-744-7444 at least 3 weeks prior to your scheduled program date. Program fees paid in full will be refunded (less the deposit fee).
