Hands-on Science and Math workshops

The California Science Center is proud to host the “Parent Learning Academy”, a series of hands-on interactive Science and Math workshops. Come and network with other parents! Learn strategies and learning tips that will help your child succeed!

Course # PLA9: Science Fun in the Summer!
July 14, 2010

Learning does not stop when the school year ends! Come to a workshop that will show parents ways to engage children in fun science activities that will keep the brain stimulated throughout the summer.


Course # PLA10: Science and the Home-School Connection
July 21, 2010

Science is not just a subject learned in school! This workshop will help parents develop the natural scientist in every child! Experience hands on activities and investigate ways to promote science learning by using common objects found around the house!

Course # PLA11: Helping Children Succeed in Mathematics
July 28, 2010

Experience Math games and strategies that will enhance student achievement! This workshop will explore ways to help children learn math concepts through simple and fun games and activities using easy to find materials.


Course # PLA12: Explorations in Math and Science
August 4, 2010

“Why did that happen?” “How does that work?” What will happen if?” Children ask questions about the world around them and are filled with curiosity and the desire to learn. This workshop will help parents explore science using hands-on topics such as plants, air and water.


Course # PLA13: Science Learning Through Play
August 11, 2010

Balls, cars, things that go! Children learn most when they are engaged in play. Explore the concept of “play” as you make and play with toys that can teach science and math concepts.


Course # PLA14: Becoming a Scientist
August 18, 2010

What is science? What does a Scientist do? These questions and more will be answered as participants engage in hands-on activities that focus on providing parents with strategies and activities to help children observe, ask questions and experiment.
