Workshop Information for Parents and After School Care Providers
Grades Pre-K to 8

Participate in Science and Math workshops that are inquiry and research based and designed to promote student success! Activities are correlated to State and National Science Standards and explore curriculum connections across the disciplines. Come and explore strategies to help children succeed! Expand your knowledge of what children must know and be able to do!

Focus on Learning: A Series of One-Day Workshops for Teachers, Parents and Community Educators, Grades PreK-8

TeachersJoin us this Spring for a series of Science and Mathematics workshops that are inquiry and research based, and correlated with the California Science Standards and the National Science Standards. Participants will hear keynote speakers who are experts in their field, engage in hands-on, minds-on experiences; and receive a certificate of attendance and educational materials to use in the classroom, at home, or afterschool care facility.

Course # PT 39:
Wild Wacky Science! Learning Science Through Brain Based Activities

February 20, 2010
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Registration Fee: $25.00

Explore, experience and engage in fun-filled, hands-on, minds-on, science that can be done at home and at school. Enhance your understanding of the brain and science learning through inquiry based activities and projects that develop conceptual knowledge and creates an interest in science for all students of all ages!

Keynote Speaker: Al Guenther,outstanding science and science teacher, Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and the National Science Teaching Award recipient.

How the Brain Learns Math!

March 20, 2010
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Registration Fee: $25.00

Come and learn how the brain works as children develop skills and understanding in Mathematics. Learn how to do meaningful inquiry and discover learning activities that will help children develop problem solving, questioning and communication skills. Experience math games that will teach mathematical skills in a fun way. Unlock the keys to understanding and enjoying mathematics with hands-on experiences.

Inquiry, The Brain, and How Children Learn

Science in the Summer: Keeping the Brain Stimulated Through Play

Discover how learning takes place through play using common toys and games. Participate in a series of activities that highlight ways to use and make toys that teach Science and Math concepts. Experience the connection between fun and learning and expand your knowledge on ways to keep the brain active and learning in the summer months!

Preschool Science: Hands-on Science Workshops

Participate in a training that is designed to guide preschool teachers and childcare providers in implementing science curricular activities and learning into the preschool program.

You don’t have to have a degree in biology or chemistry to help young children learn about science. These workshops will guide you in helping children learn about science as they explore and discover and have fun!

Workshops can also be customized and presented at your site! Call us for details!

What is science? What does a Scientist do? These questions and more will be answered as participants engage in hands-on activities that focus on providing teachers with strategies and activities to help students observe, ask questions and experiment.

I Dig Dirt: Exploring the Earth Beneath Our Feet

What is dirt? What is soil? Are they the same? Investigate these questions and more as you learn about the earth beneath our feet! Activities include discovering what can live in soil and constructing a habitat.

Science Learning Through Play
March 27, 2010

Balls, cars, things that go! Children learn most when they are engaged in play. Explore the concept of “play” as you make and play with toys that can teach science and math concepts.

Workshop Information
Location: California Science Center
Times: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Registration Fee: $35 per workshop

Registration fee includes continental breakfast, parking and materials and a Certificate of Participation.

Kresa Educator Resource Hall
Throughout the year the Kresa Educator Resource Hall will host "Make and Take Saturdays" where visitors can try out a variety of engaging hands-on science and mathematic activities relating to different themes. Join us to meet and network with other educators and parents in the Southern Californian community.
