Weekend Classes for Children Ages 4 - 6

SlimeRegister your child for weekend science classes at the California Science Center! These exciting classes last 2 hours and engage your child in hands-on activities and a special California Science Center experience. All classes are facilitated by Science Center educators.

Be A Physicist: Mixology

Do red and blue always make purple? Find out as you explore the difference between mixing colors with paints and mixing colors with light. See an exciting light and sound demonstration and make your own rainbow tubes.

Be A Scientist: Science Tools

Become familiar with the variety of tools scientists use to perform experiments. Construct your own investigations that use everything from magnifying glasses to beakers.

Why don't tall buildings fall over? Find out the answer to this question as you become an engineer and design your own building. Feel an earthquake in our earthquake room, located in the Creative World Gallery.

Be An Entomologist: Creepy Crawlies

Explore the world of insects and spiders! Investigate what animals are insects and why. Get the chance to see some live insects up close in the World of Life Discovery Room.

General Information

These programs are located in the Air & Space Discovery Room. All classes last 2 hours. Plan on arriving at the California Science Center 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to accommodate the short walk to the Air & Space Gallery.

The Little Scientist's Lab classes are designed for children to work independently. Children must have experience in a classroom setting and be age 4 by the start of the class.

Class size will be limited to 15 children per class.

$25 for Non-Members
$20 for Members*

All participants must be pre-registered.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be issued. In the event that a class is cancelled by the California Science Center, we will make arrangements for your child to enroll in another class or refund your money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Little Scientist's Lab?
The Little Scientist's Lab is located in the former Air & Space Gallery Discovery Room. The Air & Space Gallery is located on the East Side of the Rose Garden. The Discovery Room is on the bottom level.

Can I drop off my child?
Yes, we encourage children to work independently for the Little Scientist's Lab program.

Can I stay with my child?
We do encourage parents to drop off their child, but they may stay in or around the room if the child is not comfortable staying alone.

Does my child need to bring anything?
No, all supplies will be provided. You may bring a snack if necessary.

How much is parking?
Parking in Exposition Park is $8 per car. Limited street parking is available around the park.

What can siblings or other family members do when the Little Scientists are in the Lab?
Additional programs are offered on Science Saturdays for children in first through fourth grade and family members of all ages. The Junior Scientist's Lab takes place at the same time as the Little Scientist's Lab on select Saturdays. On the other Saturdays, Big Lab Family Days sessions are available.

In addition, the California Science Center is free and open from 10 AM to 5 PM.
