Science in the Park: April 6 - 10, 2009

General Information

Spring Camp takes place in and around the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation which houses cutting-edge classrooms and labs. Campers will also spend part of each day exploring one of the museums in Exposition Park.

Classes are available for students in Grades K-5. All classes last from 9 AM - 3 PM.

Sample Daily Schedule:
9 AM - Check in
9:30 - Hands-on science activities
12 PM - Lunch and Break
1 PM - Walking field trip/Park activity
3 PM - Pick up

Schedule of Topics for Spring Camp 2009

Monday: Seeing the Light
Spend the day exploring light and color. Students will also see an IMAX film.

Tuesday: Candy Lab
Investigate the science behind candy and how it relates to chemistry. During the afternoon, students will explore the World of Life gallery.

Wednesday: Science Sleuth
Try to crack the case as you work with different aspects of forensic science. Students will explore the CSI:The Experience exhibit.

Thursday: City Safari
Why can't a polar bear live in the desert? Find out as you learn about different habitats and ways animals adapt to where they live. Students will visit the Natural History Museum.

Friday: Star Explorers
Aim for the sky as you explore stars and space. Students will visit the Air & Space gallery in the afternoon.

Extended Day Program
Campers may sign up for the Extended Day Program. The program also allows children to stay 2 hours after class ends (from 3 PM - 5 PM). The Extended Day Program includes creative, fun group activities led and supervised by Science Center educators.The Extended Day Program is offered on a day-by-day basis. Please indicate the days you wish to enroll your child in Extended Day.

Cost: $10 per day

Please do not send duplicate registration forms.
*There is a $35 service charge on all returned checks.

Confirmation Letter
A confirmation letter will be emailed to you within two weeks of receiving your completed registration and payment. Please bring the confirmation letter with you each day of class for free 15-minute parking (see Camp Check-In section below).

Policies

Cancellations
Cancellations must be made two weeks in advance. No cash refunds will be issued. A class credit voucher (minus a $20 cancellation fee) will be awarded. The voucher can be used for any future camp programs. In the event that a class is cancelled by the California Science Center, we will refund your money.

Snacks and Lunch
Lunch will not be provided by the California Science Center. Campers must bring their own lunch each day. Campers will not be able to buy individual snacks or lunches from Science Center restaurants. Lunch breaks are supervised by Science Center educators.

Camp Check-In
All campers must check in and out with a parent or guardian daily. Any pick-up or drop-off changes should be turned in at that time.

Pick-Up
A parent or legal guardian must pick up children at the end of each program. Children will not be allowed to meet parents outside of the pick-up area. To ensure the safety of campers, we require advance written notice when anyone other than a parent or legal guardian will be picking up campers after the programs.

Parking
Please bring your confirmation letter with you each day of class. It will allow you free 15-minute parking for drop-off. Parents wishing to stay on site must pay a $10 daily parking fee.
