Parent Programs
A New Workshop Series for Parents:
Parent Learning Academy

The Parent Learning Academy is a series of hands-on interactive Science and Mathematics workshops, designed specifically for parents! Come and network with other parents! Learn strategies and learning tips that will help your child succeed!

These workshops are for adults only. Childcare is not provided and children will not be admitted. Translation services will be provided.

Times: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Fee: $15 per session  

Parent Learning Academy Workshop Series

July 14: Science Fun in the Summer!
Course # PLA9
Learning does not stop when the school year ends! Come to a workshop that will show parents ways to engage children in fun science activities that will keep the brain stimulated throughout the summer.

July 21: Science and the Home-School Connection
Course # PLA10
Science is not just a subject learned in school! This workshop will help parents develop the natural scientist in every child! Experience hands on activities and investigate ways to promote science learning by using common objects found around the house!

July 28: Helping Children Succeed in Mathematics
Course # PLA11
Experience Math games and strategies that will enhance student achievement! This workshop will explore ways to help children learn math concepts through simple and fun games and activities using easy to find materials.

August 4: Explorations in Math and Science
Course # PLA12
“Why did that happen?” “How does that work?” What will happen if?” Children ask questions about the world around them and are filled with curiosity and the desire to learn. This workshop will help parents explore science using hands-on topics such as plants, air and water.

August 11: Science Learning Through Play
Course # PLA13
Balls, cars, things that go! Children learn most when they are engaged in play. Explore the concept of “play” as you make and play with toys that can teach science and math concepts.

August 18: Becoming a Scientist
Course # PLA14
What is science? What does a Scientist do? These questions and more will be answered as participants engage in hands-on activities that focus on providing parents with strategies and activities to help children observe, ask questions and experiment.
