Baby Surfperches

Surfperch babies get used to their new home.

Two of our black surfperches just had babies! Science Center guests can find the tiny fish in the Rocky Shore exhibit, in the shallow area of the kelp tank. The new fish will stay safe in the shallows until they get large enough to move to the main part of the tank.

Fish Facts

  • Black surfperches give birth to live young, rather than laying eggs like many other fish do.
  • For black surfperches, an average of 20 fish can be born per pregnancy.
