BODY WORLDS 3
Volunteer Opportunities

BODY WORLDS 3 & The Story of the Heart is unlike any exhibition that has ever come before. It’s about anatomy, physiology and human health. The inner world of the human body awaits.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals 16 and older to serve as Volunteers for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Volunteers for the exhibit will be able to choose from five assignments:

  1. Guest Services Volunteers — Support us in one of these roles: direct arriving guest to exhibit; collect audio tours of the exhibit; manage the box office lines; direct guest to the 2nd part of the exhibit; or work inside the exhibit.
  2. Education Presenters — Provide hands-on mini-demonstrations and activities to enhance the BODY WORLDS 3 exhibit experience. This is a good position for someone who is not shy and has had some experience with making presentations.
  3. Gift Shop Hosts — Demonstrate unique gift items and provide customer assistance to guests. This is a good position for anyone with customer service skills and some knowledge about human anatomy to help answer guests’ questions.
  4. Membership Sales Volunteer — In conjunction with duties at the Membership Desk, volunteers shall, as needed, work with site sales staff in encouraging visitors to support the California Science Center through Membership. Working at the Membership Desk, in the lobby or outside plaza, volunteers will be responsible for informing visitors of the benefits of becoming a Member, answering questions and providing assistance with completing applications. Individuals should have exceptional customer service skills, an outgoing attitude and friendly, helpful nature. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Experience with Windows, Word and Excel a plus.
  5. Medical Information Specialist — Work inside the exhibit and interact with visitors. Communicate with visitors to ensure that their visit is as informative as possible. This involves showing plastinates, answering questions on the exhibition and answering health-related questions. This is a professional position that requires a high level of verbal communication skills involving detailed medical descriptions. This is a good position for medical students or professionals in the medical field. (*Special Requirements)

Volunteer Requirements:
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in this topic or for students or professionals in education, anatomy, forensics or any other field in the biological sciences.

Volunteer Time Commitment:
Volunteers must commit to volunteering for a minimum of three (3) months. Ideally, volunteers would be able to commit to working one 4-hour shift per week. The exhibit will be open from March 14, 2008 through September 7, 2008 and shifts are available in the morning, afternoon and evening, Monday through Sunday. Shifts will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Flexible schedule. Training is provided.
