The California State Science Fair
Needs you to Volunteer!
Volunteer for the 63rd Annual California State Science Fair, being held at the California Science Center! The Science Fair unites over 1,000 middle & high school students from throughout California who have achieved high ranks in their county science competitions. We invite you to join us on Monday, April 28 and/or Tuesday, April 29, 2014 to see top competitors present their explorations in Astronomy, Aerodynamics, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics and more.
Over 100 volunteers are needed to assist with registration, directions, project transport, display monitoring, meal distribution, etc. We are in search of volunteers (age 16 & older), in good physical health, to help with this rewarding and memorable event. Volunteer shifts are 3 to 4 hours in length and we provide complimentary parking & refreshments.

Volunteer Application Form
Have a green thumb? Become a Horticulture Volunteer!
The California Science Center is seeking volunteers to assist our horticulture staff with the daily maintenance of plant life in and around our museum. Our garden mostly consists of California native & drought tolerant plants. Volunteers must be able to work independently with duties that include plant restoration, replanting, weeding, pruning and trimming. Applicants should be in good physical condition to work outside, including being on their feet and/or knees for prolonged periods of time. Prior landscaping, gardening and horticulture experience are required. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and commit to serving 4 hours/week (typically Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 8am to 12noon) for a 1-year period.
Guest Services Air and Space Volunteer Program
The California Science Center is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Guest Services Air and Space Volunteer Team. Volunteers will serve in the Sketch Air and Space Gallery, in the Endeavour: The California Story exhibit and in the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Display Pavilion, which will house Space Shuttle Endeavour. Guest Services volunteers serve as frontline resources for our guests and are instrumental in providing a quality guest experience. Volunteers will engage and assist guests as they explore our unique collection of air and space artifacts and partake in related hands-on activities to discover how humans design aircraft and space probes by using our knowledge of the principles of air, space and flight.
The Guest Services Air and Space Volunteer Program offers two rewarding volunteer positions: Guest Services Air and Space Host Volunteer and Guest Services Volunteer Lead. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and commit to volunteering one (1) four hour shift per week for a six-month period. Volunteer positions are available Monday-Sunday and typical shifts are 9:45am to 1:45pm and 1:15pm to 5:15pm. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with guests of all ages, including large school groups.

Volunteers are an integral part of the California Science Center family. As a non-profit organization, we depend on our volunteer force to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Science Center. In addition to the tangible benefits our volunteers receive, they also enjoy the personal satisfaction of sharing in the fulfillment of the California Science Center mission. Varying in age volunteers come from all walks of life - yet on a volunteer level, they share the same mission: to touch the lives of children and families in a positive way by giving of their personal time.
We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to serve in an array of exciting positions. Volunteer shifts are available every day of the week (including Saturday & Sunday) between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. Volunteers are usually scheduled for a four hour shift, typical shifts are 10:00 am to 2:00pm or 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Volunteer Program Requirements:
- Be at least 16 years of age (some positions have an 18 year of age minimum)
- Commit to volunteering a minimum of 4 hours/week
- Commit to serving between 6 months and 1 year (requirement determined by volunteer position)

- Attend an informational Volunteer Orientation
- Attend training courses (required training courses determined by volunteer position)
