California Science Center
Previews World Premiere of
Marvel® Super Heroes™
Science Exhibition
At the Eighth Annual
Discovery Ball 2006
Los Angeles, CA—The
California Science Center will offer a preview of the world
premiere of Marvel
Super Heroes Science Exhibition at its black-tie gala
fundraising event Saturday, March 25, 2006 in Exposition Park.
Guests
will begin the evening feeling like super heroes themselves
as they follow klieg lights to the Science Center’s Lorsch
Family Pavilion where mock paparazzi and reporters from the “Daily
Bugle” (newspaper of Spiderman’s alias Peter Parker)
will rush to photograph and note their grand entrances to the
pre-dinner cocktail party. Super Hero character actors from
the Marvel Universe, including Spider-Man and The Hulk, will
greet and chat with guests as they enjoy hors d’oeuvres.
Guests will then preview the Marvel Super Heroes Science
Exhibition before dining in a roof-top like setting in
the Science Center surrounded by scenes of a New York skyline,
a familiar background of Marvel super hero movies. While dining,
they will be treated to several performances by an aerial acrobatic
troupe.
Following
dinner, the Science Center’s Loker Conference
room will be transformed into a “Villains Lounge” for
dancing. There will also be a private screening of the new
IMAX film Deep Sea 3D.
One of
the evening’s highlights will be a special presentation
by Dr. Buzz Aldrin to the Science Center. In an earlier
ceremony, NASA will honor Dr. Aldrin with an Ambassador of
Exploration award for his dedication and service as an astronaut
on the Apollo 11 mission. The award consists of a lucite-encased
moon rock that was collected during the Apollo 11 mission. At
the Discovery Ball, Dr. Aldrin will formally present the moon
rock to the Science Center, where it will later be on display
to the public.
The Discovery
Ball 2006 dinner committee is co-chaired by Tony Buzzelli,
Vice Chairman of Deloitte and Paula Madison, President and
General Manager of KNBC/Telemundo. The
gala honorary chair is famed Marvel former CEO Stan Lee,
who is the creator of Spider-Man among many other Marvel
characters.
Located
just south of downtown Los Angeles in Exposition Park, the
California Science Center is one of Southern California’s
premier family destinations. The Science Center’s mission
is to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone
by creating fun, memorable experiences and has welcomed over
11 million visitors since its grand opening in February of
1998.
