The Muses of the California Science Center Foundation

2010 Woman of the Year Honoree

Patricia Beckman

Pat Beckman is a passionate philanthropist and a dedicated advocate for science education at all levels, with a particular focus on developing leadership skills and networking. She founded the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation - Orange County Chapter and was instrumental in developing the hands-on Beckman@Science program for elementary school children in Orange County. Pat has taken a special interest in the annual California State Science Fair competition for middle school and high school students throughout California and personally funds the Project of the Year awards to the top winners.

Pat serves in several notable leadership positions including Life Trustee of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech); Trustee of the University of California, Irvine Foundation; Director of the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation; and The Orange County Science Excellence Committee for Middle Schools. She is also a distinguished member of THE MUSES and serves on our Board of Directors as Vice President, Development.

When she is not spending her time in support of science education, Pat enjoys hiking, back packing, travel, reading and pets.
