Summer 2010
Educational Youth Job Corps
Spearheaded by the Weingart Foundation, a coalition of philanthropic organizations—committed to the well-being of residents in Los Angeles and the Southern California region—including the Ahmanson, Annenberg, Ralph M. Parsons and Weingart Foundations have joined together in support of summer youth employment opportunities. The goals of the paid internships are to foster self-esteem; use informal education as a vehicle to build skills for academic achievement in all disciplines; prepare students for the workforce and college by focusing on communication and leadership skills; and stimulate lifelong learning.
Collaborating educational organizations include the California African American Museum, California Science Center, EXPO Center and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. These learning institutions located in Exposition Park will train and employ over 100 youth, ages 16 and older, in meaningful staff positions from June through August 2010.
