A Night of Revelry Benefiting Science Learning for Everyone!
On May 16, 2014 the California Science Center held its 16th Annual Discovery Ball with a gala fit for royalty. More than 750 guests attended the west coast premiere of Pompeii: The Exhibition. and were transported back in time to the height of the Roman Empire with cocktails set in the lush gardens of a Pompeiian villa. Then a lively “chariot ride” to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum where parading gladiators dramatically lit the Olympic torch to commence the al fresco Romanesque feast in the candlelit peristyle of the coliseum. Fast forward to the modern day for the evening’s fabulous conclusion–dessert, dancing and drinks beneath the wings of Space Shuttle Endeavour in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion.
Gala Co-Chairs, Anne Shen Smith, past Chairman and CEO of Southern California Gas Company and Bob Carter, Senior Vice President – Automotive Operations of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. along with the California Science Center Foundation thank our top donors: Wells Fargo and Toyota and all of our many generous supporters for helping to exceed our fundraising goal with gross revenue topping $1.35 million!
Proceeds from the Discovery Ball help sustain model education programs and hands-on exhibits that make the California Science Center a world-class educational resource and family destination. The Science Center’s annual gala has been recognized as one of Los Angeles’ premier philanthropic occasions, considered a “virtual who’s who of the Los Angeles business community” by the Los Angeles Business Journal and ranked 3rd among Southern California’s top 100 benefit events for three years running according to BizBash.
