15th Annual
Discovery Ball
A Record-Breaking Success!
On Saturday, March 9, 2013 the California Science Center held its 15th Annual Discovery Ball with a truly out-of-this-world gala. Nearly 850 guests joined to celebrate beneath the wings of Space Shuttle Endeavour in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion. Guests journeyed through the past, present and future of space exploration. The virtual timeline included the Area 51-inspired cocktail reception set in 1961, an elegant modern-day dinner with Endeavour as its centerpiece and dancing in the futuristic Club Eon nightclub imagining the year 2099.
This year’s Discovery Ball reached an entirely new stratosphere! With sold-out tables and unprecedented gross revenue of $1.5 million, the galactic gala exceeded all expectations. We congratulate our Honorary Chair, Lynda Oschin and Co-Chairs, Raul Anaya and Michelle Kerrick on this stellar success. The California Science Center Foundation would also like to thank our top donors: Lynda Oschin, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Toyota along with all of our many generous supporters.
The Science Center’s annual gala has been recognized as one of Los Angeles’ premier philanthropic occasions, considered a “virtual who’s who of the Los Angeles business community” by the Los Angeles Business Journal and ranked 3rd among Southern California’s top 100 benefit events according to BizBash. Proceeds from the Discovery Ball help sustain model education programs and hands-on exhibits that make the California Science Center a world-class educational resource and family destination.
Stay tuned for the 16th Annual Discovery Ball in Spring 2014—sure to be another extraordinary evening of celebration, all in the spirit of science learning for everyone!
