Dr. Hathout is a distinguished physician and scientist,
having attained high standing in professional circles regionally,
nationally, and internationally. He was a professor of Obstetrics
and Gynecology in Egypt, and Chairman of his department at
Kuwait University. He is also the author of over ninety academic
medical journal articles. In addition to his contributions
to medicine and science, he is also a religious scholar, using
the tools of his educational background to study Muslim and
non-Muslim faiths. He is concerned about the prevalence of
negative distortions about Islam that are present in America,
and is determined to foster communication and understanding
between Muslim and non-Muslim people. To this end, Dr. Hathout
is the author of many books about Islam, including the critically-acclaimed Reading
the Muslim Mind (1995), and has participated in numerous
interviews on local and national TV and radio stations. He
is the recipient of many awards, including the Egyptian Medal
of Excellence, the Olive Branch Award from the American Friends
Service Committee in Los Angeles, and the Life Changer Award
from the Initiatives of Change International Organization.
