Senior Research Analyst, Center for Consumer Freedom, Washington D.C.
J. Justin Wilson is a Senior Research Analyst
at the Center for Consumer Freedom, where he researches science
and policy issues related to obesity, trans fats,
and other food and beverage issues. Justin contends that
obesity is an issue of consumer choice that can only be resolved
through personal responsibility. He opposes the "food
police," and questions policies like fat taxes, zoning
regulations, ingredient bans, and other policies that rely
on government intervention to coerce citizens to lose weight.
Most recently, Justin led a successful campaign to pressure
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to revise
the estimated number of obesity-attributable deaths in the
United States. The campaign came after he determined that
the CDC's benchmark study on obesity and mortality contained
fatal flaws that led to drastically overstated estimates.
Justin has written two books examining the costs and causes
of the nation's burgeoning waistlines and he is also a frequent
commentator on television and radio programs, as well as
in many newspapers. He is a graduate of the University of
Michigan.
